Organizing a Paper

Thesis: What and Why

• What are you arguing and why is it significant?

Paragraph Organization:

• Point: mini-thesis
• Example: specific, concrete detail
• Explanation: how does this detail tie in with the thesis

Homework:

200 word explanation of your first blog post and why you are writing it.  Discuss how you narrowed it down and what is the argument/thesis

Use the Point, Example Explanation to outline your paper

• Decide on your topic and make a list of everything you can think of relating to your topic (at least 20 items)
• Free-write on a 3 of the sub-topic you listed (about 200 words each)
• Please type it and save the file as we will be returning to this
